Focus is on Achievement, Expectations and Accountability, Community and Parent Engagement
DALLAS—Added support for Dallas Independent School District students and programs is the goal of the newly-formed Dallas Education Foundation.
The mission of the foundation is to unite community and resources for excellence throughout Dallas ISD. The goals are to increase student achievement by promoting, identifying, and recognizing excellence; to require high expectations and systems of accountability; and to create champions for public education.
"Most other large and suburban North Texas school districts have foundations to support the efforts of their staff," said Michael Hinojosa, superintendent. "The launch of the Dallas Education Foundation will help propel Dallas ISD to become the top urban school district in the country by 2010. This board is made up of key leaders in Dallas, all of whom have pledged their support to get behind the school district."
The foundation's board of directors includes: Arcilia Acosta, Joel T. Allison, Dolores Barzune, David Biegler, Adelfa B. Callejo, Robert A. Estrada, Lee Jackson, Jim Keyes, Ron Kirk, Steve Mauldin, Liz Minyard, Pettis Norman, Erle Nye, Holly Reed, John Scovell, Jack Swindle, Don Williams and Dr. Hinojosa.
