Students represent 29 high schools on the board
DALLAS—Representing the Dallas Independent School District students, junior and senior class presidents from 29 comprehensive high schools will gather for the first Teen Board meeting for the 2006-2007 school year Wednesday, Sept. 20, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the board room of the School Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
The meeting agenda includes discussions of community service projects and review of guidelines and recommendations established by past teen board members.
"Teen Board provides an avenue for participation and involvement of student leaders in the district," said Judy Johnston, director—Districtwide Activities. "Students share with peers their campus successes and concerns."
Serving as mediators between the students and the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, the primary objective of Teen Board is to offer input to the general superintendent from the students' perspectives. Last year, Teen Board sponsored a school supply drive to benefit children in shelters and family centers."
Teen Board meetings for 2006-2007 are scheduled for the following dates: Oct. 25; Nov. 15; Dec. 6; Jan. 17; Feb. 15; March 22 and April 26.
