Dallas ISD Celebrates School Lunch Week Oct. 9-13

Representatives from USDA to visit Obadiah Knight Elementary School

DALLAS– The Dallas Independent School District Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will host multiple activities in observance of School Lunch Week, Oct. 9-13.

On Thursday, Oct. 12, at 12:30 p.m., Obadiah Knight Elementary School will host a program that will promote the School Lunch Program, the Fruit and Vegetable Pilot program and the USDA Team Nutrition Program.

On hand for the event will be Principal Enrique Escobedo, Dora Rivas, division manager of Food and Child Nutrition Services, Robin Ryan, Area 4 superintendent, Elvia Andarza from the Texas Department of Agriculture and Esther Phillips, deputy regional administrator for the USDA Food and Nutrition Service.

Below are other events that will take place during the week:

• Tuesday, Oct. 10, at noon – Dallas ISD will host the Research Study on Student Participation by The National Food Service Management Institute from the Univ. of Mississippi. Representatives from the Dallas ISD Teen Board focus group will attend. The event will be held in the Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
  
  
  Also, the Dallas Area Child Nutrition Program Directors focus group will meet at 2:30 p.m. in the Administration Building.

• October 12, at 7 p.m. – "Nutritious Nibbling" a demonstration for parents will be held in the Administration Building, 3700 Ross Ave.
