Zona Escolar Dalas Receives Lone Star Emmy Nomination

27 Sep 2006

Student Hosted Television Program is Produced by Dallas Schools Television

DALLAS–Zona Escolar de Dallas, an all-Spanish version of School Zone Dallas, received a nomination for a Lone Star Emmy. The nomination marks the fourth consecutive year that Dallas Schools Television has received an Emmy nomination from the Lone Star chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.

Like School Zone Dallas, Zona Escolar de Dallas is hosted by students from the Dallas Independent School District. It airs at no charge on Univision-KUVN-23 through a unique partnership with DSTV.

Zona Escolar de Dallas won an Emmy last year in the Outstanding Magazine Format category. This year's nomination is in the Public/Current/Community Affairs - Program/Special category. Other nominees in that category are from KERA in Dallas and KTRK, the ABC affiliate in Houston.
During the past three years, Dallas Schools Television has received four Emmys: two for School Zone Dallas, one for a story contained in School Zone Dallas and one for Zona Escolar de Dallas.

The nominated program was hosted by former Dallas ISD students Cynthia Cordona, Adamson High School and Enrique Guerrero, Moisés E. Molina High School. Reporters on the show include former students Esmeralda Castro, Skyline High School and Joanna Sanchez and Sergio Rodriquez, Booker T. Washington H.S. for the Performing and Visual Arts. Guerrero is now attending the University of Texas at Austin. Castro is enrolled at Southern Methodist University. Cardona is attending Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Rodriguez is a freshman at Brookhaven College and Sanchez is at the University of Texas at Arlington.
