Dallas ISD To Host Principal For A Day, Oct. 19

13 Oct 2006

Community leaders, media personalities among participants

DALLAS – The Dallas Independent School District has invited local leaders and media personalities to assume the duties of principals at district schools Thursday, October 19.

Principal for a Day is a Partner in Education project where the district invites community leaders to learn more about their local school by spending a traditional day in the life of an educator.

"The program was designed to form ongoing partnerships of individuals and businesses with Dallas ISD, demonstrate the private sector's commitment to ensuring a quality public education to all students, and increase awareness and understanding among individuals in the private sectors of the strengths and challenges of the many schools in the Dallas Independent School District," said Loraine Lee, Executive Director, Office of Community Services.

An average day includes meetings with faculty to learn about the day-to-day operations of a school. Guest principals also might teach a class, meet with the student council, attend student performances, read to students or lead a class assembly.

Program participants are matched and assigned to either an elementary, middle, or high school. In the program this year, about 125 volunteers have been selected for participation.
