Dallas ISD Dedication Celebrates New High School

13 Oct 2006

Emmett J. Conrad High School Named for Education Trailblazer

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District superintendent Michael Hinojosa and members of the Board of Trustees will join community members at 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 22, for the dedication of the Emmett J. Conrad High School, located at 7502 Fair Oaks Ave.

The sole high school built with funds from the district's 2002 bond program, Conrad is named for Dallas physician and civic leader Dr. Emmett J. Conrad, who was the first African American elected citywide to the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, and who later served on the State Board of Education. State Senator Royce West, who considered Conrad a mentor, will address Conrad's accomplishments; Trustee Leigh Ann Ellis and Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa also are scheduled to speak.

Other schools scheduled to be dedicated this fall include Leonides Gonzalez Cigarroa, M.D., C.A. Tatum Jr., Frank Guzick, Jimmie Tyler Brashear and Jerry R. Junkins elementary schools. Four additional schools will be dedicated in the spring.
