2007-2008 Dallas ISD School Calendar Survey Options Announced

DALLAS—With the input of school and community groups, the district's calendar committee has proposed two calendar options for 2007-2008 that meet state and local requirements.
Both calendars call for 175 days of instruction, with August 27 as the start day of classes. To review the calendar in detail, please go to www.dallasisd.org/calendarsurvey/

Calendar Option A
- Start date is Monday, Aug. 27, and the end date is Wednesday, June 4.
- First semester ends Jan. 18
- Two-week winter break, with teachers returning on Jan. 7 and students on Jan. 8
- Three days are given for Thanksgiving break
- One full week is given for spring break
- Holiday observances include Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, and Memorial Day
- Elementary Fair Day is Friday, Oct. 5, which is a regular school day for secondary students and teachers
- Secondary Fair Day is Friday, Oct. 12, which is a regular school day for elementary students and teachers
- Inclement weather make-up days are March 21 and June 6
Calendar Option B
- Start date is Monday, Aug. 27, and the end date is Friday, May 23
- First semester ends Dec. 21
- Seven-day winter break, with teachers returning on Jan. 2 and students on Jan. 3
- Two days are given for Thanksgiving break
- Three days are given for spring break
- Holiday observances include Labor Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Birthday, and Memorial Day
- There are no fair days
- Inclement weather make-up days are March 21 and May 28
