Program is Produced by Dallas Schools Television
DALLAS—Zona Escolar de Dallas, an all-Spanish version of School Zone Dallas, received a Lone Star Emmy Award in the Public/Current/Community Affairs category October 21 at the 4th Annual Lone Star Emmy Awards presentation in Houston.
This marks the second year in a row that Zona Escolar de Dallas has won an Emmy award from the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. It is also the fourth consecutive year that Dallas Schools Television has been honored with an Emmy.
Like School Zone Dallas, Zona Escolar de Dallas is hosted by students from the Dallas Independent School District. It airs courtesy of Univision-KUVN-23 through a unique partnership with Dallas Schools Television.
"It is a great honor that a district-produced show, hosted by Dallas ISD students, wins such a prestigious award," said Dallas ISD Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. "We owe the success of this program to some very talented students and to the dedicated professionals of Dallas Schools Television."
Zona Escolar de Dallas aired on Univision KUVN Channel-23 in February 2006. "We are very fortunate to have the support of Univision," said Cathy Reaves, executive director, DSTV. "This would not have been made possible without their collaboration and interest in featuring the students, teachers, programs, and services in the district."
The Emmy Award-winning program was hosted by former district students: Cynthia Cordona, W.H. Adamson High School, and Enrique Guerrero, Moises Molina High School
Reporters on the show include former students Esmeralda Castro, Skyline High School, and Joanna Sanchez and Sergio Rodriguez, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
Guerrero is now attending the University of Texas at Austin. Castro is enrolled at Southern Methodist University. Cardona is attending Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio. Rodriguez is a freshman at Brookhaven College and Sanchez is at the University of Texas at Arlington.
