C.A. Tatum Jr. Elementary School Honors Legacy of Dallas Civic Leader
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Deputy Superintendent Ron Peace, U.S. Representative Eddie Bernice Johnson and members of the district's Board of Trustees will join community members at 2 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, for the dedication of C.A. Tatum Jr. Elementary School, located at 3002 North St. Augustine Road.
The first of three new schools to be dedicated in southeast Dallas, Tatum Elementary is named for community leader C.A. Tatum Jr., who contributed to the peaceful desegregation of Dallas schools and public accommodations in the early 1960s. Congresswoman Johnson will address Tatum's accomplishments, which included collaboration with civic leaders across North Texas leading to the creation of Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport. An art piece created by Tatum students will be presented to the Tatum family.
Other schools scheduled to be dedicated this fall include Frank Guzick, Celestino Mauricio Soto Jr., Jimmie Tyler Brashear and Jerry R. Junkins elementary schools. Four additional schools will be dedicated in the spring.
