Information fair November 4 will address community needs
DALLAS—Parents Step Ahead, an educational partnership between the Dallas Independent School District and El Hispano News, will bring a series of information and educational seminars to Julian T. Saldivar Elementary School, 9510 Brockbank Drive.
Seminars are offered in English and Spanish and the topics have been selected to meet the needs of each community. The opening session is at 9 a.m., with breakfast and daycare provided for children of the participating parents.
Computer literacy, effective discipline, test-taking skills, family counseling, college preparation and gang and drug awareness are some of the topics to be discussed at the fairs.
El Hispano News chose to celebrate the publication's 20th anniversary by hosting a series of parent workshops in schools throughout the district. According to publisher Lupita Colmenero, who spearheaded the Parent Step Ahead seminars, the best way to celebrate this milestone is by giving back to the community information about resources and services that will enhance their lives.
Parents who attend the seminars qualify to win the Parent of the Year award, which will be presented at the Parent Step Ahead gala Thursday, December 7, at the Westin City Center Hotel.
