Dallas ISD To Honor Veterans

Annual Veterans Recognition Scheduled for Nov. 10
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District will recognize central staff employees who are military veterans at its annual Veterans Recognition event at 10:45 a.m. Friday, Nov. 10, at the administration building flagpole, 3700 Ross Ave.
General Superintendent Michael Hinojosa and Board of Trustees President Jack Lowe will address the veterans and lay a wreath at the base of the flagpole, while a student from Oliver Wendell Holmes Humanities/Communications Academy plays Taps. The Bryan Adams High School JROTC will raise the colors and lead the audience in the Pledge of Allegiance and students from James Madison High School will sing the Star Spangled Banner.
Below are some school activities districtwide to recognize veterans:
- Sunset High School JROTC will host a Veterans Recognition Assembly in the Sunset auditorium from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8.
- Skyline High School JROTC will host a Veterans Day Recognition Assembly in the school auditorium at 8:15 a.m. on Nov. 9.
- H. Grady Spruce High School will conduct a Veterans Day Ceremony and Flag Pole Dedication at the flagpole in front of the school at 3 p.m., on Nov.10.
- Bryan Adams High School JROTC will deliver Veterans Day packets to middle school staff at
7:30 a.m. on Nov. 8 and 9. Bryan Adams cadets will hand deliver packets to veterans in their at 8 a.m. on Nov. 10.
- Lincoln High School JROTC will host Veterans Day Recognition at the Nelson L. Butler Cemetery and a presentation in the school lecture hall at 2 p.m. on Nov. 9.
- W. H. Adamson High School and John F. Peeler Elementary School Veterans Recognition Ceremony will be held in Adamson's auditorium at 2:30 p.m. on Nov. 2.
- Greiner Middle School will conduct a Veterans Recognition Ceremony at the flagpole outside the school at 7:45 a.m. on Nov.10.
- Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center Veterans Recognition Ceremony will be held in the schools auditorium at 10 a.m. on Nov. 10.
- North Dallas High School JROTC cadets will be going to the feeder school and presenting certificates on appreciation and gift bags to veterans on Nov. 7 and 8.
- Franklin D. Roosevelt High School will host a luncheon recognizing teachers who are veterans within the Roosevelt cluster in the school media center from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thursday,
Nov. 9.
- South Oak Cliff High School Veterans Recognition Day will acknowledge the veterans assigned to South Oak Cliff High School and its feeder pattern in the school auditorium from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8. Guest speaker will be Captain Steven Howard from the Dallas Army Recruiting Station
- W. W. Samuell High School JROTC will conduct their 7th Annual Veterans Day Ceremony to recognize the school's veterans in the auditorium from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 8
- Thomas Jefferson High School JROTC Veterans Day Retreat Ceremony will be held at
3:15 p.m. on Nov. 8.
- James Madison High School will host a luncheon from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in the conference room on the second floor on Monday, Nov. 6.
- David W. Carter High School will conduct their Annual Veterans Day Ceremony from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
- Hillcrest High School JROTC will recognize the employees of Dallas ISD who are veterans of the Armed Forces by conducting a Retreat Ceremony at the flagpole of Hillcrest at 3:15 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 9.
- Seagoville High School will collaborate with the National Honor Society to cater breakfast for the Veterans Day celebration on Nov. 8
- Kleberg Elementary will conduct a flag-raising ceremony on Tuesday, Nov. 7, in the morning.
- Central Elementary will conduct a flag raising ceremony with JROTC in the morning on Thursday, Nov. 9.
- Seagoville Elementary will hold a mini assembly featuring JROTC Cadets in the afternoon on Tuesday, Nov. 7.
- Fred F. Florence Middle School will honor Dr. Theodore Roosevelt Lee Jr., former Dallas ISD principal who is now a community leader, during the school's Veterans Day Program at 9:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 10.
About 1,000 campus and central employees have been identified as military veterans. Veterans Day is Saturday, Nov. 11.
