DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District Adult Basic Education Department will honor students earning their General Education Development during the 2006-2007 Fall Graduation Ceremony at 11 a.m., Saturday, December 2, 2006, at Skyline High School, 7777 Forney Road, Dallas.
Students who obtained a GED this year have an opportunity to register with the ABE Department and participate in the graduation ceremony. The deadline for registration is November 16, 2006.
"We are very proud of our students who have worked hard to obtain their GED," said Martin Riojas, director of the Adult Basic Education Program. "It is important to celebrate their accomplishment. The graduation ceremony also gives family and friends an opportunity to celebrate with them."
Acquiring the GED is an important step for adult learners to reinforce basic skills, acquire or refine critical-thinking skills and analytical abilities. It also enhances opportunities for more stable employment, career objectives, and access to higher education, he said.
Graduation keynote speaker will be Dr. Wright Lassiter, Chancellor of the Dallas County Community College District.
The ceremony will be followed by a reception for students and their families.
