Soto Elementary School Named for Community Leader, Special Olympics Volunteer
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District administrators and members of the district's Board of Trustees will join students, staff and community members Saturday, Nov. 18, for the dedication of Celestino Mauricio Soto Jr. Elementary School, 4510 West Jefferson Blvd.
Festivities will begin at 10 a.m. with a parade from the Cockrell Hill City Hall,
4125 W. Clarendon, to the school. At 11 a.m., the school will host an art walk featuring student artwork, a display on a future school mural and refreshments and entertainment.
At noon, District 7 Trustee Jerome Garza, first vice president of the Board of Trustees, will speak during the dedication ceremony honoring the new school and the legacy of Celestino Mauricio Soto Jr., a community leader and advocate for children, especially those with special needs.
The L.V. Stockard Middle School JROTC will participate in the ceremony, which will also include performances from the Soto Stars choir and a special group of Sunset High School students.
Patsy Soto will talk about her husband's goals for the children of Dallas and how he worked to achieve them. Soto Elementary was built on the site of a once-popular movie theater, which was a favorite place of Patsy and Celestino Soto when they were dating many years ago.
Other schools scheduled to be dedicated this fall include Jimmie Tyler Brashear and Jerry R. Junkins elementary schools. Four additional schools will be dedicated in the spring.
