Dallas ISD Observes American Indian Heritage Month

Annual Pow Wow Scheduled for Saturday, Nov. 18

DALLAS–With the theme "Completing the Circle of Knowledge," during the month of November, the Dallas Independent School District is observing American Indian Heritage Month.

The parent advisory committee of the Dallas ISD American Indian Education Program will host its second Miss Indian PAC of Dallas pageant at 6 p.m., Friday, Nov. 17, at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School, 4550 Worth St. The winner will be selected based on her tribal knowledge, talent, tribal clothing and tribal dancing.

Honoring Veterans, the committee will also host the Vets Pow Wow on Saturday, Nov. 18, from 1 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Richland Community College, 12800 Abrams Road.

The Pow Wow will feature American Indian dancing, singing, arts, crafts and food. The winner of the 2006 Miss Indian PAC of Dallas pageant will be crowned during the Pow Wow.

Several schools will also be commemorating the American Indian Heritage Month by hosting presentations about American Indian Education Programs.
