Original Building Dates to 1914; Addition Adds 16 Classrooms
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Trustee Adam Medrano and State Representative Rafael Anchia will join students, staff and community members at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, December 5, for the ribbon-cutting ceremony of the new wing at Maple Lawn Elementary School, 3120 Inwood Road.
Tuesday's ceremony will include remarks from Representative Anchia, Trustee Medrano and Leslie Fountain of Southwest Airlines; the airline has been a longtime partner in education with Maple Lawn. The North Dallas JROTC will participate, and Maple Lawn kindergarten classes will perform.
Maple Lawn Elementary School first opened to students in 1914. The recently-completed wing adds 16 classrooms, a computer lab, an administrative office, a bookroom, restrooms for students and staff, a technology room, and custodial, electrical and mechanical support spaces. The school also received extensive renovations to the original building including: new fire alarm and sprinkler systems; new roofing; upgrades to the electrical system, technology infrastructure, and heating and air conditioning systems; and accessibility improvements.
The construction and design team included program manager, Jacobs/Pegasus; architect, Shiver Associate Architects; and builder, Starling Richardson Construction.
