South Hampton Campus Co-Located with Dallas Branch Library
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District administrators and members of the district's Board of Trustees will join students, staff and community members at 4 p.m. Sunday, December 10, for the dedication of Jimmie Tyler Brashear Elementary School, 2959 South Hampton Road.
The school, which shares space with the Hampton-Illinois Branch Library, is named for the late Jimmie Tyler Brashear, the first African American Dallas ISD administrator. Brashear served the district for 38 years, and was recognized statewide for her leadership in early childhood education.
The dedication will include remarks from Dallas ISD Board Trustee Carla Ranger and Ronald Peace, deputy superintendent-Business Services. Barbara Brashear Carter will speak on behalf of the Brashear family. Additionally, the ceremony will include recognition of retired teacher Kathryn L. Mitchell for whom the school's auditorium has been named.
The Brashear Boy Scouts will participate, the school choir will sing the new school song, and a dance group and hand bell choir will perform. Joining in the celebration, the Dallas Public Library will host activities in the adjacent Hampton-Illinois Branch Library throughout the afternoon.
