Dallas ISD Students Attempt To Break Guinness World Record

12 Dec 2006

Students will join other children throughout the city in the effort

DALLAS—Students at several district schools will participate in Break a World Reading
Record with Charlotte's Web Wednesday, December 13, 2006 at 11 a.m.

At the designated time, students throughout the district will read aloud a passage in English and Spanish in an effort to break the world's record for most people reading aloud simultaneously in multiple locations. Currently, there are 489,305 readers signed-up to read worldwide.

In the district, several schools have signed up to participate, including Ben Milam, Jill Stone at Vickery Meadow, Gabe Allen, McNair, Lisbon elementary schools, and at Sam Tasby Middle School.

Local community members have been invited to witness the event, as it will be documented and sent to the Guinness Book of World Records.

Tasby Middle School media specialist Raquel Cummings says the plan is for fans of
Charlotte's Web to gather in schools, hospitals, libraries and community centers to read a passage
from E. B. White's classic tale of friendship, kindness, selfless giving.

"It is our hope that Break a World Reading Record with Charlotte's Web will introduce this
wonderful story to a new generation and reintroduce the story to fans who haven't read it since childhood," said Cummings.
