Dallas ISD, Shriners and City of Dallas Fire Rescue to hold News Conference, February 5
DALLAS— To provide information to students on how to prevent burn-related injuries among youth is the focus of a news conference Monday, February 5, at 8:30 a.m., in the gymnasium at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School, 4550 Worth Ave.
Students from Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School will demonstrate the "stop, drop and roll" technique to their peers.
Dallas Independent School District Superintendent Michael Hinojosa, Shriners Burn Awareness Chairman Charles Currie, members of the Shriners from the Garland Hella Temple, Dallas Fire Department Fire Chief Eddie Burns Sr., and Dallas ISD Executive Director for Health Services Suzanne Kubelka will be present.
The mission of this partnership between the school district and the Shriners organization is to emphasize the need for families to discuss safety and escape plans.
Shriners Hospitals for Children, a network of 22 pediatric specialty hospitals in the U.S., Canada and Mexico, and members of Shriners of North America, the fraternity that supports the hospitals, will emphasize "Heat. It Doesn't Take Flames to Burn" during Burn Awareness Week, February 4-10. The intense national campaign highlights the importance of learning more about scald injuries and keeping children safe.
Statistics show that burns and fires are the leading cause of accidental death in the home for children 14 and under. National Burn Awareness Week is February 4-10.
