DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's student-hosted Spanish-language version of School Zone Dallas, Zona Escolar de Dallas, will air for the first time in 2007 on Univision-Channel 23, Saturday, Feb. 17, at 9:30 a.m.

Zona Escolar de Dallas won a 2006 Emmy Award from the Lone Star Emmy Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences for Outstanding Public Affairs Programming.

Hosted from Celestino Mauricio Soto Jr. Elementary School, one of the district's 12 new schools to open this school year, the February show will feature a story about a group of 23 new Dallas ISD teachers who moved from Spain to teach in Dallas. Also highlighted is the unique story of a 76-year-old woman who recently received her GED through the district's Adult Basic Education Department, and a story about the DIVAs in Training program through which girls are learning the importance of becoming dignified, independent, valued and accomplished.

This year's cast of students includes a junior at Skyline High School, Isaac Villafana, and senior students Jannet Ramos, W.T. White High School; Veronica Sosa, Moisés E. Molina High School; Rudy Gutierrez, H. Grady Spruce High School, and Blanca Carranza, Booker T. Washington High School for the Performing and Visual Arts.
