Portable Kiosk Will Allow Students to Search for Jobs
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District Career and Technology Education department, in partnership with The Dallas Morning News and Job View, will introduce a special portable Job Center Kiosk at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 27, at the Skyline High School Media Center, 7777 Forney Road.
The portable employment Job Center Kiosk, which is an interactive job search system, was developed for Dallas ISD high school students to allow them to search for jobs, print job descriptions, and apply for jobs listed in The Dallas Morning News. Although Job Center Kiosks are found in libraries throughout Dallas, it is believed that Dallas ISD will be the first district in the nation to use the portable kiosk.
Dallas ISD Career and Technology Education Career Counselors Edwina Saba and Mary Maddox will schedule visits to high school campuses to assist students in its use. Students also will receive important information on resumé writing, interviewing and completing employment applications.
On hand for the introduction of the kiosk will be Ryan Solberg, vice-president of Job View, and Sholunda Osby, from Product Development, Classified Recruitment Advertising of The Dallas Morning News, who were instrumental in securing the portable for Dallas ISD students.
Other special guests include Bernie Heller, vice-president Advertising, The Dallas Morning News; Lisa Virgoe, director, Classified Recruitment, The Dallas Morning News; Steve Flores, chief administrative officer, School Support Services; Denise Collier, chief academic officer, Curriculum and Instructional Services; Liliana Valadez, assistant superintendent, College and Career Readiness; Ivonne Durant, area superintendent, Area 1; Leslie Williams, principal, Skyline High School; Ward English, associate principal, Skyline Career Development Center; Barbara Ware, executive director, Career and Technology Education; and Sylvia Lopez, executive director, Counseling Services.
