Dallas ISD Makes Changes To Students' Dress Code
26 Feb 2007
Mandatory uniforms will have a second shirt option
DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Board of Trustees have adopted a new policy to implement a change to the students' dress code.
Students in pre-kindergarten through grade eight currently must wear mandatory uniforms. With the new policy, which goes into effect immediately, campuses will be able to select one additional solid color shirt, besides the white.
The district's standards for appropriate attire are:
- Jackets, cardigans and sweaters – must be worn over an approved shirt: no hooded shirts are allowed for middle school students. Uniform colors are khaki, navy, black and white.
- Skirts, jumpers, shorts and capri pants – knee-length or longer in khaki, navy or black.
- Shirts and blouses – must be white, straight, button-down, or turtleneck collar; long or short sleeves; may be polo-style and must be tucked into pants or skirt.
- Slacks and pants – pleated or flat-front; fastened at the waist; belt must be worn with pants that have belt loops. The colors are khaki, navy or black.
- Shoes – athletic shoes, loafers, dress shoes, other closed-toe and closed-heel shoes; closed-toe and open-heel mules.
Parents must contact their student's school to find out if a solid color was selected as one additional choice for the shirt.
