Dallas ISD Trustee Ron Price Receives Two Honors

1 Mar 2007

A Civil Rights Honor and an Educational Excellence Award

DALLAS–Dallas Independent School District Trustee Ron Price, District 9, has been selected to be an honoree at the Invisible Giants program during the Bridge Crossing Jubilee, Friday, March 2, in Selma, Alabama.

"I am truly excited and humbled to receive this honor that highlights the importance of the Civil Rights Movement," said Price. "We must continue to push forward and seek successful ways to help our youth and communities flourish," he said.

Sponsored by the National Voting Rights Museum and Institute, the Bridge Crossing Jubilee is an annual celebration of the right to vote in Selma, Alabama. The Invisible Giants Program provides an opportunity for young people to hear the stories of those who sacrificed their lives for the right to vote.

The celebration also honors people who were too young to be in the Civil Rights Movement, but have picked up the baton and have continued the fight for freedom and equality.

Price will share some of his stories of the community service projects he has worked on in the Dallas area with the junior high and high school students from Selma at 10 a.m.

Locally, the Dallas County Peace Officers Association also will honor Price by presenting him the Educational Excellence Award Saturday, March 3, at 7 p.m., at the Dallas InfoMart, 1950 Stemmons Freeway.

The award is presented to an individual or organization that has promoted the educational development of youth and communities through continued efforts to increase educational standards and opportunities.
