Camp Teaches Dallas ISD High School Seniors About Business Issues

9 Mar 2007

Application form available on-line or from a school counselor

DALLAS—April 9 is the deadline for Dallas Independent School District seniors to apply for the 2007 Camp Enterprise sponsored by the Rotary Club of Dallas.

During a weekend in September, a select group of high school seniors interacts with business executives, politicians, union leaders, and government representatives. The students learn about entrepreneurship and personal finance from the experts.

The camp is the largest annual project undertaken by Rotary Club of Dallas, and it is very important to the club, said Nick Hosn, camp chair and vice president of vocational services for the club. More than 100 Rotarians volunteer throughout the weekend.

During the camp, the students are divided into teams to develop a business idea that they present at the end. Each team is responsible for covering all aspects of running a business, including coming up with a name, logo, and advertising campaign. The students apply the business knowledge they gain from the speakers to running their "businesses," and at the end of the camp, the team with the greatest net profit is declared the winner.

Applications can be obtained from high school counselors or at www.dallasrotary.org. Acceptance letters are sent in May to the students selected to participate in Camp Enterprise.
