District site lists and links scholarships
Dallas—Students and parents in the Dallas Independent School District have the opportunity to learn of scholarships and financial aid resources available to them just by visiting the district's Web site at dallasisd.org.
"The idea of listing scholarships is not new. We always have provided some type of guidance and resources to our students, but this Web site has made it easier for students and their parents to learn in a timely manner of resources available to them, and to apply by downloading the information, if interested," said Sylvia Lopez, executive director-Counseling Services.
In addition to scholarships, the site offers information and links to the Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA), information on the SAT and ACT and links to the Texas Education Agency and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board.
"Spring break is great time to look for additional sources of funding for college and to write the essays usually required with each application," said Lopez. The scholarships are listed in the For Parents section under Scholarship Information.
In addition, the Universities Center of Dallas is inviting Dallas ISD seniors to use their computer lab March 12-16 to complete college and FAFSA applications from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The center is located at 1901 Main Street. An appointment is not required, but students must bring a school badge. Please call 214-915-1900, for information.
