Sulentic Family Foundation Est. $1 Million Scholarship Program With Dallas ISD

17 Apr 2007

Funds will be used to provide scholarships for district seniors

DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District seniors will benefit from $1 million in scholarships donated by the Sulentic Family Foundation through a separate scholarship program to be administered by the Dallas ISD.

Commencing with this year's graduating class, senior students have an unprecedented opportunity of applying for a $20,000 college scholarship. The Dallas ISD will select 10 students from each of the 2007-2011 graduating classes to receive these awards.

The Sulentics are a local family whose son and daughter attended Dallas ISD schools and, as a result, the Sulentics have a great appreciation for the school system.

"The Dallas ISD greatly appreciates the generosity of the Sulentic family," says Superintendent Michael Hinojosa. "This $1 million scholarship program, and the scholarships it creates, will open the doors to a college education to many deserving students. One of the district's goals is to prepare students to graduate and pursue a college education, and this gift will make that goal more feasible for many of them."

Scholarship recipients will be determined based strictly on three parameters: consistently demonstrated integrity, consistently demonstrated hard work and financial need. In order to accommodate a scholarship recipient who must work while attending college, the scholarship funds may be utilized on a semester by semester basis provided the student completes at least nine credit hours at an accredited college, university, or community college each semester and maintains a minimum 2.5 GPA.

Applicants must not be related to a Dallas ISD employee or to a member of the district's Board of Trustees. For more information about this and other scholarship opportunities, visit www.dallasisd.org under the heading For Parents.
