District to Honor Four Finalists at May 17 Banquet

DALLAS–Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa will announce the Dallas Independent School District's 2007 – 2008 Teacher of the Year at a banquet at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 17, at the Old Red Courthouse, 100 South Houston St.

The four finalists are Osley Cook Jr., Oliver Wendell Holmes Humanities/Communications Academy; Ruth Kaiser, Obadiah Knight Elementary School; David Lewis, Magnet Center for Public Service: Government, Law, and Law Enforcement at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center; and Candace Wicks, Erasmo Seguin Community Learning Center

A committee of judges selected the finalists based on interviews and essay packets that described their teaching philosophy, professional background and interaction with students, parents and members of the community.

The winner will receive $5,000 from Central Market H-E-B, the event's sponsor, and will represent the district in the regional competition.
