Dallas ISD 2007 Graduates Ready To Begin The Next Journey

From Princeton to West Point, College Choices are Many for District Students
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's 2007 outstanding graduates success in the classroom has propelled them to the next phase of their academic journey.
Many of the district's graduates have received special recognitions, generous scholarship offers and acceptance in many of the most prestigious colleges and universities in the country.
"The success of these talented graduates is a result of their dedication and hard work," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "As the school year concludes, their success is a great incentive for future generations."
Some of the graduates and their accomplishments are listed:
- Jorge Pereda, Franklin D. Roosevelt High School. He is the 2007 valedictorian and has received scholarship awards totaling $280,000. He also is a Gates Millenium Scholar – Class of 2007. The award promotes academic excellence and provides an opportunity for outstanding minority students with significant financial needs to reach their highest potential. He will attend Cornell University in the fall with a full academic scholarship with options that will allow him to continue on to graduate school.
- Adriana Campos, School for the Talented and Gifted at Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center. Campos has taken and passed 18 Advanced Placement courses and is the recipient of the first Joe May Scholarship. She also has received the Superintendent's Scholarship, the Ascher Silberstein Scholarship and will attend Stanford University in the fall on a full academic scholarship.
- Kosieme Okafor, Bryan Adams High School. He is the valedictorian and is a National Achievement Scholar. He also is Vice President of the National Honor Society, Homecoming King (2006-2007) and was named Scholar Athlete of the Year. Okafor will attend Texas A&M University and major in engineering.
- Arturo Rodriguez, Bryan Adams High School. He is a National Hispanic Scholar, an Advanced Placement Scholar and will attend West Point Academy in the fall.
- Jazzmin McCoy, South Oak Cliff High School. Jazzmin is number one in her class and will attend the University of Texas at Austin on a full academic scholarship.
- Reginald Thompson, David W. Carter High School. He is fourth in his class and is the recipient of a Field Scovell Scholarship and a football scholarship to the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor. Reginald has succeeded in spite of having to undergo many personal hardships.
- Thomas Simpson, Woodrow Wilson High School. He is ranked number two in his class. Thomas has a passion for writing and has been a student writer for The Dallas Morning News and the Lakewood-Now.net paper. He also wrote for the school's literary magazine, The Angler. He is a National Merit Scholar and will attend Princeton University in the fall.
- Mathew George, Woodrow Wilson High School. Mathew is the recipient of a National Merit Scholarship, Bobby Bragen Scholarship, the Superintendent's Scholarship, the Kiwanis Scholarship, and Rotary Scholarship. He will attend Yale University in the fall.
