More than 100 students will perform in concert
DALLAS—Dallas Independent School District invites the community to attend the closing ceremonies of the first Dallas Wind Symphony Summer Music Institute at 4 p.m. Friday, June 1, Mountain View College Performance Hall (on the East Campus).
This inaugural Summer Music Institute closes with a performance by both of the institutes' bands, each comprised of approximately fifty-five middle-school students. The camp is a collaboration between the Dallas Independent School District, the Dallas Wind Symphony, and Mountain View Community College
The concert concludes a four-day band camp where more than 100 middle school students received specialized training in band, brass, woodwind, and percussion as taught by Dallas ISD band directors and Dallas Wind Symphony musicians. Students also were coached in music fundamentals such as tone, production and technique development, pitch, intonation and rhythmic studies.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information about the camp, please call Randy Garmon, band/orchestra specialist, 972-749-2549; or John Shepherd, band (and camp) director, 469-417-8554. For more information, about the Dallas Wind Symphony, call 214-565-9463 or visit www.dws.org.
