Technology Companies Reach Out To Dallas ISD Students

7 Jun 2007

"The DFW Semiconductor Technology Executive Council (S-TEC) is making a clear view of the future for engineering students of Dallas"

DALLAS—As the hot days approach Dallas many children are dreaming of time away from the classroom, but such is not the case for 22 dedicated Conrad High School students. These students are the first to participate in the Engineering Minds of Tomorrow internship offered by the DFW Semiconductor & Technology Executive Council (S-TEC).

The EMT internship will be held on Conrad's Campus through June 18. This summer is the pilot for EMT and is the only internship of its kind in North Texas. EMT interns will participate in many enhancing challenges, which they must overcome with the help and guidance of one of their teachers and two college engineering interns. They will gain experience through corporate and college tours as well as hands-on laboratories. Some of these laboratories will be science based while others are robotic engineering in nature. A wide variety of activities are planned for a full two weeks of fun, learning and teamwork. There also will be an emphasis on the importance of taking steps to reach college as well as pursuing a rewarding career in engineering.

These 22 EMT interns also are enrolled in Conrad High school's brand new Texas – Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Academy. The students were selected based on their enrollment and acceptance into the T-STEM Academy and a letter of interest for the EMT Pilot Program. The academy will open its doors for the first time beginning this fall.
