Proposed $1.16 billion budget allocates $29.4 million for salary increases
DALLAS— The Dallas Independent School District will hold a public meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, June 28, 2007 in the school auditorium of Emmett J. Conrad High School, 7502 Fair Oaks Avenue, to discuss the school district's budget that will determine the tax rate that will be adopted.
Public participation in the discussion is invited.
The proposed general fund budget of $1.16 billion provides $41.1 million to cover health insurance and salary increases, of which $9 million is set aside for teacher and principal pay for performance incentives. The budget also includes funding for additional high school teachers to lower class size in core academic courses. The district also will further expand the Fine Arts program for elementary schools, and provide resources to emphasize middle school Athletics.
Taxpayers will see savings. The tax rate district officials want to set in August is $1.199643 per $100 of assessed value. Based on that average, the proposed rate would yield a tax bill of $1,490 for the owner of a $155,869 home, the district's market average. The amount of annual savings is approximately $230.
The proposed budget is expected to be approved at the board meeting immediately following the public meeting.
