1 Aug 2007

Mandatory Uniforms Will Have a Second Shirt Option

DALLAS–During the upcoming 2007 – 2008 school year, the Dallas Independent School District pre-k through eight grade students will continue to comply with the dress code policy established by the Board of Trustees in 2004, which requires them to wear mandatory uniforms.

The 2007 – 2008 school year begins Monday, August 27.

A change to the students' dress code policy will now allow elementary and middle school campuses to select one additional solid color shirt. Parents must contact their children's school to find out the second solid color shirt option.

The district's standards for appropriate attire such as style and colors are

Not allowed under the uniform policy are blue jeans, low-cut or low-rise pants, sagging slacks or pants, clothing with manufacturer's trademarks larger than one inch and clothing with non-Dallas ISD logos and insignias such as those of professional sports teams.

On campuses where the board has approved the use of mandatory uniforms, students will wear the school-approved uniform unless a parent or legal guardian files an objection requesting the student to be exempt from the mandatory uniform requirement or asks that student be transferred to a school where uniforms are not required

Some high schools also will require students to wear uniforms.
