Dallas ISD and Dallas Police Dept. Join Forces To Remind Drivers To Slow Down In School Zones

22 Aug 2007

Classes in Dallas Schools Begin Aug. 27

DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District and the Dallas Police Department will make a call to drivers to observe traffic laws and reduce speed in school zone areas in preparation for the start of a new school year at a news conference at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 24, at James B. Bonham Elementary School, 2617 N. Henderson Ave.

Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa, Dallas Police Chief David Kunkle and Dallas ISD Chief of Police John Blackburn will be present.

Classes in the school district begin Monday, Aug. 27, and about 156,691 students are expected.

The speed limit in school zones is 20 miles per hour when the lights are flashing. This is enforced from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. and 2:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Drivers should be observant of all speed limits and should not pass a school bus that is stopped with red lights flashing.

Bonham Elementary School received the state's Exemplary Accountability rating for 2005-2006, 2004-2005 and 2003-2004 school years. The school has been recognized by the Texas Education Agency for Distinguished Performance for the 2004-2005 school year, and made the Just for the Kids 2005 Honor Roll awarded by the Texas Business and Education Coalition and Just for the Kids.
