Dallas Intake Center To Enroll African Refugee Students

14 Sep 2007

Enrollment of Refugee Students Scheduled for Sept. 18, 19 and 20

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center will be enrolling African refugee students starting on Tuesday, September 18 through Thursday, September 20.

The State Department has been bringing a record number of refugees from Africa since June. The families are being sponsored by Catholic Charities and the International Rescue Committee.

Approximately 20 students will enroll at the Intake Center each of these three days.

Since it opened its doors in July 2003, the Margaret and Gilbert Herrera Student Intake Center has provided guidance to more than 10,000 immigrant and refugee students from about 60 countries in the world, and their parents, in adapting to life in the United States and understanding the enrollment process in the Dallas ISD.

Services provided include school enrollment, academic assessment, immunizations, mentoring, tutoring and parent orientation.

The Intake Center is located at 2617 N. Henderson, behind James Bonham Elementary School.
