Dallas ISD Observes School Lunch Week

15 Oct 2007

Students vote for favorite entrée

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will observe School Lunch Week, October 15-19.

With the theme Vote for School Lunch, students will have the opportunity to vote for their favorite entrée. "It is more than a fun opportunity to find out what students like to eat," said Food and Child Nutrition Dietitian Christina Smith.

During School Lunch Week the Food and Child Nutrition Services Department will inform students of the importance of healthy eating habits, great nutrition, the impact of nutrition on academic success and overall lifestyle.

District employees will also have the opportunity to participate and make a contribution to School Lunch Week by providing food cans to North Texas families. Employees can donate canned food during the second annual districtwide Lend a Helping Can campaign, which kicks-off on Tuesday, Oct. 16 and ends Wednesday, Oct. 31. The goal of the campaign is to collect 100,000 pounds of canned food, equaling almost 80,000 meals. The collected canned food will be donated to the North Texas Food Bank. During the campaign, employees will learn more about world hunger from representatives from the North Texas Food Bank.
