School Was Named in Honor of Former Dallas ISD Administrator
DALLAS– Dallas Independent School District officials and community members will gather for the dedication of Larry G. Smith Elementary School, 5299 Gus Thomasson Road, at 2 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 3.
The school is named for Larry G. Smith, a Dallas ISD educator who served the district for 37 years as principal, coach, and administrator. Born in Amarillo, Texas, in 1943, Smith's friends and family say he knew as early as high school that he wanted to teach so others could learn from his success in the classroom and in sports. His friends and colleagues remember him best as a person who treated all children with respect and encouraged them to be the best at whatever they decided to do in life.
Larry G. Smith Elementary School, located in the northeast Dallas suburb of Mesquite, opened in August 2007. The 91,000-square-foot school accommodates about 800 students in 37 classrooms.
