State Mandates that Schools be Reconstituted if Classified as Academically Unacceptable for Two Consecutive Years
DALLAS–Two Dallas Independent School District elementary schools and five high schools will be reconstituted for the 2008–2009 school year. The state mandates that campuses be reconstituted that are classified as academically unacceptable for two consecutive years to ensure that students are receiving a quality education.
The schools that will be reconstituted for the 2008–2009 school year are Birdie Alexander and Edward Titche elementary schools and Justin F. Kimball, L. G. Pinkston, Franklin D. Roosevelt, Seagoville and Woodrow Wilson high schools.
Several steps are involved when a school faces reconstitution. The legislation requires that each campus establish a Campus Intervention Team, which has the final decision-making authority and responsibility to determine which educators may be retained at the campus.
"This is a difficult but necessary step to take," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "Schools must be reconstituted in order to comply with the state's requirements and also to guarantee to parents and the community that all efforts are being taken to ensure that students are well prepared for college and the work force. The district will re-double its efforts to make certain that schools get the resources they need to improve their status."
A combination of results from the 2007 TAKS tests and the teachers' Division Classroom Effectiveness Indices were used to determine the teachers impacted as a result of the reconstitution process. Only teachers of record in the core classes of reading, mathematics, social studies and science were impacted.
