More Time Allowed to Recruit Students
DALLAS–The application process for the Dallas Independent School District's magnet school program has been extended until March 20.
The district's magnet school system includes magnets for high school students, academies for middle school students and vanguards for elementary students. The schools provide career-oriented or a special interest curriculum in addition to a complete academic program.
"Through the magnet schools, students have access to college preparatory courses, which investigate and explore today's career choices," said Faustina Gallagher, magnet schools program coordinator.
Under the guidelines approved by the Dallas ISD Board of Trustees, students will be selected based on their grade-point average, performance on national norm-reference tests and a third assessment, such as an interview, essay or audition.
The applications are available at district schools, the School Administration Building at 3700 Ross Ave., and on the district's Web site at www.dallasisd.org.
