Dallas ISD Student From W.H. Adamson High School Is Recipient Of The First Eric Louis Brown Memorial Scholarship

20 May 2008

Scholarship presented in the amount of $5,000

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District has announced that W.H. Adamson High School senior Hector Mendoza has been selected as the first recipient of the Eric Louis Brown Memorial Scholarship for the 2007-2008 school year in the amount of $5,000.

Mendoza received the scholarship as a result of balancing academics and football with successful results. According to his football coach, he is an example of what a student-athlete should be. His grades are his priority as evidenced by his outstanding grade point average and class ranking.

Mendoza said he believes that teamwork is the key to all successes and that having someone there beside you is extremely important whether on or off the field. He will be attending Southwestern Kansas College in Winfield, Kansas in the fall and has signed a letter of intent to play football. SKC is a non-scholarship private school.

This memorial scholarship is named in honor of Eric Louis Brown, a dedicated athlete and beloved student at David W. Carter High School, who died following football practice. Dallas ISD established the scholarship in his memory and $5,000 will be awarded to a district student annually each of the next ten years who has demonstrated excellence in both academic and athletic pursuits.
