Dallas ISD Trustees Issue Resolutions

Teachers and Students Recognized for Outstanding Accomplishments
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District's Board of Trustees passed resolutions honoring teachers and students at the regularly scheduled board meeting on May 22, 2008.
Among the honorees were the 2008-09 Teacher of the Year Suzy Smith, an art teacher at Edna Rowe Elementary School, and the secondary runner-up, Rita Hines from the School of Science and Engineering at the Yvonne A. Ewell Townview Center.
Both teachers were surprised with a Mercedes Benz for the summer which will allow the teachers to drive the cars for three months at no charge. The teachers will also receive one tank of free gas each month. The presentation was made by Park Place Motorcars General Manager Robert Morris and Sales Consultants Anthony MacPherson and Robert Stuckey.
Other honorees were:
- The South Oak Cliff Boys Basketball Team, led by Head Coach James C. Mays II, Assistant Coaches Derek Stricklin and Anthony Terrell, along with other staff members, was crowned Class 4A State Champions.
- Paul Stanley, a junior at Greenhill School, raised $56,000 for a new baseball field at John F. Kennedy Learning Center.
- Keldrick Hall, a senior at Molina High School, who became the first wrestler from the Dallas Independent School District to win a Wrestling UIL State Title.
- Zachary Fein, a student at Benjamin Franklin Middle School, who finished first in the eighth grade 4A Number Sense category with a score of 368, and Samuel Bull, a student at J.L. Long Middle School, finished first in the seventh grade 4A Science category with a score of 165. The Texas Math and Science Coaches' Association State Championship Meet was held on March 29, in San Antonio.
- The Lincoln Girls Basketball Team, led by Coach Michael Ensley, Assistant Coaches Richard Ensley, Dwayne Creggett, Onamacritus Eutsey, was crowned Class 4A State Champions.
- The Skyline High School Girls Track Team was crowned the Class 5A State Track Champions. Candace Jackson finished second in the 200-meter race, Charaschiea Lockhart finished fifth in the Triple Jump, and the relay team finished first in the 400-meter relay and the 1600-meter relay.
- The Madison High School Boys Track Team won the Class 3A 1600-meter Relay State Title.
- Jasmin Mullings, of Madison High School, won the Class 3A 100-meter State Title.
- Nathaniel Sowells, of Madison High School, won the Class 3A 400-meter State Title.
- Kevin Furlough, of Woodrow Wilson High School, won the Class 4A 400-meter State Title.
- W. T. White High School Boys and Girls Tennis Team won District 11-5A for the sixth consecutive year, led by Coach Pat Henderson.
- W. T. White High School Theater Department won the One-Act Play competition at the Second Annual Irma P. Hall Theatre Arts Festival. The award winning production won Best Stage Manager, Best Supporting Actress & Actor, Best Actress & Actor, Best Director and Best Play, led by James Smethers.
- Thomas C. Marsh Middle School Cadet Corps won the National Champion Drill Team competition for the second consecutive year, led by Coach David Bates.
