Academy begins Monday, August 4 through Friday, August 15
DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District New Teacher Support and Mentoring Department will host the New Teacher Academy beginning Monday, August 4, at various campuses.
On Tuesday, August 5, the New Teacher Orientation will be held at Ellis Davis Field House at Jesse Owens Memorial Complex, 9191 South Polk Street, beginning at 7:30 a.m.
For the fourth consecutive year, Washington Mutual will sponsor the New Teacher Academy. Internationally known teacher, author and consultant, Harry Wong, will deliver the keynote.
The New Teacher Academy is designed to provide new teachers with important information that will assist them in getting their career with Dallas ISD off to a successful start. The goal of the academy is to ensure that all new teachers receive a warm welcome and the opportunity to learn about district initiatives, as well as the district's students, curriculum, instructional programs and support systems.
One of the district's major goals is to provide professional development that is content-focused and tailored to meet the needs of the new teacher. All new teachers who are hired by August 4, 2008, are required to complete 63 hours of professional development.
