District Asks UIL to Forfeit Three Games and District Title from 2007 Season
DALLAS- An internal investigation by Dallas ISD's Office of Professional Responsibility has determined that Roosevelt High School used an ineligible player for three district varsity football games during the 2007 season. The OPR investigation concluded that a student-athlete's grade had been manipulated to incorrectly reflect that the student had a passing grade.
Dallas ISD today notified the University Interscholastic League and requested that UIL records indicate forfeiture of the following contests:
This will result in Roosevelt's overall regular season record to now be listed as 6-4 and their district record as 2-3. The district is also asking UIL to forfeit Roosevelt's 2007 District 11-3A varsity football championship and list Dallas' James Madison High School as the district varsity football champions for the 2007 season.
"As I have said before, we want our students to win both in the classroom and on the playing field, but we insist that they do it within the rules," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa.
"We will not tolerate unethical behavior and we are working diligently to implement a system based on best practices to guard against future occurrences.
