Dallas ISD's Child Find Program Offers Assistance To Students With Special Needs

12 Aug 2008

Services Are Offered at No Cost

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's Special Education Department is encouraging parents whose children may need special education services and live in a Dallas ISD attendance zone to call one of the district's 24-hour Child Find referral phone numbers to receive the needed services.

The services are offered at no cost and are available for all eligible individuals from birth through 21 years of age regardless of the severity of their disability.

"The sooner that we can identify students who require special needs, the sooner we can get them the help that they need, and perhaps the support might be needed for a shorter period of time," said Special Education Department Executive Director Meredith Smith. "Early childhood intervention is very important. The earlier you can intervene, the better the results."

The Child Find referral phone numbers are (972) 581-4765 for assistance in English and
(972) 581-4764 for Spanish.
