Students to Receive Free Eye Exams and Eyeglasses
DALLAS—Thanks to an innovative partnership between the Essilor Vision Foundation, the Lions Sight and Tissue Foundation and the Dallas ISD, students at more than 20 local schools will receive free eye exams and eyeglasses so they can read and learn more effectively.
The partnership, Kids Vision for Life – Dallas Coalition, will be launched at 10 a.m., Thursday, Sept. 25 at Ignacio Zaragoza Elementary School as the first pairs of eyeglasses are presented. The school is located at 4550 Worth St., and the mobile Vision Coach will be on hand from 9:30 – 11 a.m., in the event media want to shoot video/photos of children getting eye exams and choosing their new glasses.
"This is a great partnership for the students of Dallas ISD," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "Without proper vision care, children could face a lifelong struggle with literacy. We don't want anything to hinder the teaching and learning process that's taking place in the classroom as our students move toward college and workforce readiness."
