DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District's Dalton Sherman, the fifth grade student at Charles Rice Learning Center who delivered the keynote address at the 2008 Back-to-School Kickoff, will appear on the Ellen DeGeneres television program today, Thursday, September 18, at 3 p.m., on KXAS-Channel 5.
Dalton has become Internet sensation, prompting hundreds of emails daily coming from across the nation, Canada, and as far away as Japan. Dalton's mother, Donna Sherman, a 19-year veteran of the district, is a fifth grade teacher at J. P. Starks Elementary School.
Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa is delighted at the notice Dalton is receiving and states, "You are truly an inspiration to the 17,000 teachers, principals and other campus staff of the Dallas Independent School District, and we are proud of all that you've accomplished. Students like you not only motivate, but encourage us all to believe in the power of education. We are watching and will, no doubt, be following your career for years to come."
