DALLAS—Two student-hosted television programs School Zone Dallas and Zona Escolar de Dallas, produced by Dallas Schools Television, are nominated for 2008 Lone Star Emmy awards. School Zone Dallas is nominated in the category of Public/Current/Community Affairs Program/Special/Series. Zona Escolar de Dallas is nominated in the Informational/Instructional Program/Special/Series category.
In addition, Nuevos Amigos, a Spanish language instructional program is nominated in the category of Children/Youth/Teen. The nominations mark the sixth consecutive year Dallas Schools Television has received an Emmy nomination from the Lone Star Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences.
School Zone Dallas aired on WFAA-Channel 8 last spring. Zona Escolar de Dallas aired on Univision-Channel 23 last February. Both programs feature stories about the many exciting things going on in Dallas ISD. Nuevos Amigos aired on district-operated Cable Channel 98 on Time Warner Cable System of Dallas. The program provides Spanish language instruction to prekindergarten through third grade students.
Since 2003, Dallas Schools Television has received five Lone Star Emmys: two for School Zone Dallas; two for Zona Escolar de Dallas; and one for a story segment in School Zone Dallas. The Sixth Annual Lone Star Emmy Awards will be held in Houston on Saturday, October 18, and the winners will be announced that evening.
