Selected Principals Will Take Part in Coaching Program
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District has been awarded a grant from the Meadows Foundation to implement a coaching program for high school principals.
The grant, which is not to exceed $667,000, will make it possible to recruit and train 11 principal coaches who will work with and provide support to 22 existing principals. These principals have been selected based on recommendations from the executive directors of the learning communities. The goal of the program is to improve student achievement, increase school effectiveness, and increase the campus-level, consumer confidence for participating schools. The program will also work to ensure that these campuses maintain or earn the rating of Academically Acceptable or better during the coming school year.
Each of the coaches will be assigned to work with two principals providing intensive, one-on-one coaching for the 2008-2009 school year. For the following year, additional principals may benefit as funds are able.
"We are excited to be awarded this grant from the Meadows Foundation," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "Meadows has a long history of supporting programs that make a positive difference in the lives of people and there is no better way to impact society than to start with our youth. This grant will help provide the much needed support to our principals so that they are able to be more
effective in their schools and improve student achievement."
The Meadows Foundation is a private philanthropic institute established in 1948 by Algur H. Meadows and his wife, Virginia Meadows, to benefit the people of Texas.
