Sponsors Send Message that Education Matters
DALLAS—The Dallas Independent School District will sponsor a rally for men at 7 p.m., Tuesday, October 14 at John E. Kincaide Stadium.
The rally, called Education Matters, is designed to bring attention to the alarming educational statistics regarding young African American males. Based on data from the 2007-2008 school year, African American males ranked last in the state of Texas in math, science, reading and writing, and they had the lowest SAT/ACT scores in the state. African American males also lead the state in school dropout rates and truancy, and are overrepresented in special education programs.
Dallas ISD School Board Vice President Ron Price and Trustee Dr. Lew Blackburn will host the event which aims to bring prominent community leaders together to mentor young African American males.
All men interested in addressing these concerns are asked to attend. Kincaide Stadium is located at 9191 South Polk Street.
