Elections Turn Lunch Time Into Fun

7 Oct 2008

Students Will Vote for President of School Lunch

DALLAS—Pete Pizza, Biff Burger, Gloria Grilled Cheese, Larry Lasagna and Petunia Pita Pocket are all in a race. The winner will be crowned President of School Lunch.

Beginning Oct. 13-17, school children across the nation will be observing National School Lunch Week sponsored by the School Nutrition Association.

As part of the campaign, Dallas ISD students will participate and learn about the election process as they vote for their favorite school lunch choice. Each food choice is depicted as a mascot who is active and healthy. The promotion is a fun way to deliver a message about the nutritional value of the school lunch program and seeks to debunk myths about the quality and nutritional content of school lunches.

Early voting is already underway, and students will be able to vote until Oct. 17. The winner will be announced on Friday, Oct. 24.
