Dallas ISD Develops Scorecards For District's Schools

9 Dec 2008

Scorecards will be available on the district's Web site starting Jan. 12

DALLAS–The Dallas Independent School District has developed scorecards for each of the district's 218 schools. Each school will receive a printed copy of its scorecards in English and Spanish and all the scorecards will be available on the district's Web site, www.dallasisd.org, starting on Jan. 12.

The scorecards are annual reports that provide information about a school's performance and progress toward the district's goals for student achievement. The scorecards clearly communicate how well a school is doing toward fulfilling the district's mission and definition of excellence and helps school leaders set priorities based on performance.

The performance measures used to create the scorecards go beyond test scores to include outcomes such as graduation rates, college readiness, attendance, and other key measures of success.

"The scorecards are a key component of Dallas Achieves!," said Superintendent of Schools Michael Hinojosa. "The scorecards will help us determine how much more work needs to be done in order to get our students college and workforce ready."

During the month of January, principals will go over their school's scorecards with campus staff. The scorecards will be available to the public during a series of community meetings being held in January and February for each of the 22 feeder patterns, but individual scorecards will not be discussed at that time. Principals will find the best way to present their school's scorecards to parents, community members and other stakeholders.

"In order to create a supportive community, citizens need up-to-date information regarding the progress of their school," said Hinojosa. "That way, they know what the challenges are and also the school's successes."
