Viewers Will Vote for Favorite Student Designed Float, Winner to Receive $20,000 Prize for School
DALLAS—This year's Comerica Bank New Year's Cotton Bowl Parade, which airs at 2:30 p.m., Thursday, January 1 on KDFW, Channel 4, will feature 10.
At the start of the parade, viewers will be invited to vote for their favorite Dallas ISD float by going to www.voteforthefloat.com, or they can text their vote from an AT&T wireless phone using their favorite float's five digit number which will be provided during the parade. A shortened version of the parade will re-air at 11 a.m., Friday, January 2 before the Cotton Bowl game is played. All voting will conclude at 11:59 p.m., Friday, January 2.
The winning float will be announced at 10 a.m., January 9, 2009 at a press conference at Dallas ISD headquarters, 3700 Ross Ave. The team with the most votes will win $20,000 for their school and art program. The second place school will get $1,000, and the rest of the teams will each receive $500 for their school.
The contest, which was introduced to Dallas ISD officials over the summer, invited middle school students to create float designs around the central theme of the parade, Celebrate Community. The top ten designs were selected by a panel of judges and built by a professional float builder.
